    No pueden impedir que uno sufra, no pueden garantizar que uno sea feliz, no pueden reemplazar a la madre o al padre, no evitan que uno cometa errores, ni aciertan a celebrar a tiempo el verdadero triunfo sobre uno mismo, no impiden que el dolor duela, ni aseguran que el amor ame, no detienen el tiempo ni sus deterioros, no apresuran el equilibrio ni sus armonías, no están siempre que hacen falta, ni se van sólo cuando uno está preparado para la soledad, no calman todas las posibilidades de la sed, ni se privan de despertar otras nuevas.
    Los amigos sólo hacen que el espejo nos devuelva la imagen de alguien capaz de ser amado por alguien a quien ama.
    Los amigos solamente hacen que la vida valga la pena de ser vivida.
